Official Launch of the SCCI+
Today, in commemoration of the 13th Royal Wedding Anniversary of Their Majesties, the Disabled People's Organization of Bhutan-DPO launched the Service with Care and Compassion Initiative Plus (SCCI+) in Paro. This pilot project, led by the DPOB in collaboration with the Royal Society for Senior Citizens and Paro College of Education,, aims to provide personalized care and accessible services for persons with disabilities and senior citizens.
The event was graced by Hon. Dasho Ugyen Tshering, the member of National Council of Bhutan of Paro Dzongkhag, along with representatives from the Civil Society Organizations Authority and UN development partners. SCCI+ is designed to enhance the quality of life for persons with disabilities and senior citizens by offering tailored services that promote dignity and independence.
The initiative will provide social support and cater to the emotional needs of homebound persons with disabilities and senior citizens. Additionally, trained volunteers from Paro College of Education will assist participants with daily tasks and emotional support, following their capacity-building training.
The launch commenced with the arrival of guests, welcomed with a traditional phebja. After the Marchang ceremony, Mr. Tshering Namgay, Executive Director of the Royal Society for Senior Citizens, delivered a welcome speech, followed by a vibrant dance performance from the SCCI+ club. Mr. Kinley Wangchuk, Executive Director of DPOB, then provided a project overview, succeeded by keynotes from the Dean of Student Affairs of Paro College of Education and the honorable Chief Guest.
The official launch of SCCI+ was marked by cultural dances and the presentation of assistive devices to caregivers. A donation and lottery session added to the festivities, with winners personally contacted to receive their prizes. The day culminated in a communal lunch, bringing together participants, volunteers, and community members to celebrate this vital initiative.
Overall, the successful launch of SCCI+ reflects our collective commitment to improving the lives of Persons with disabilities and the senior citizens and marks a significant step toward fostering a more inclusive and compassionate society.
